Kenya Safari
Kenya
Kenya had us in different safari vehicles, first a pop up top style and then the wide open style, and always looking for something new… and then ended with a hot air balloon ride over the Mara.
The Maasai Mara is what most people picture when they think of safari… wide open land, wildlife everywhere, and you’re right there in the middle of it. We saw herds moving across the plains, lions not too far off, it’s not something you watch from a distance, it’s happening all around you.
Amboseli had a completely different feel. Seeing elephants moving across the landscape with Mount Kilimanjaro in the background is one of those views you just stop and take in.
We also spent time at Ol Pejeta, which added another layer. Seeing the conservation work up close, especially with the rhinos, gives you a better understanding of what goes into protecting all of this.
And some of the special moments weren’t even the wildlife… visiting a local school supported through Tauck, and stopping at a weaving cooperative where women are building something for themselves. Those are the parts that give you a better sense of the place beyond what you see on safari.
Our last morning, we were up early for a balloon ride over the Mara, watching everything wake up below us. It felt like a pretty special way to end the trip.
I would definitely go back on a safari again, fantastic experience beyond what I could have imagined. . 🧭
