Explora Journeys Explora II - Part Two: Spain, Morocco & the Canary Islands
Our fall 2025 voyage aboard Explora Journeys Explora II continued on from Barcelona, taking us along Spain’s Mediterranean coast to Alicante, through the Strait of Gibraltar to Casablanca, Morocco, and out into the Atlantic to explore Tenerife and Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. We discovered quite a contrast in landscapes, architecture and cultures along the way, from historic port cities to the extraordinary volcanic scenery of the Canaries, before returning to mainland Spain for a visit to Cádiz & Seville.
One of the pleasures of a longer voyage is having time to enjoy life aboard between destinations. I tried my hand at pickleball (not something I often do as a tennis player!), enjoyed the various pools, excellent restaurants, evening performances and our daily trivia games with a wonderful cruise director who made them especially entertaining. I also found my favorite quiet escape in the steam room, complete with ice for cooling down afterward.
Some of my favorite memories were the unexpected little moments. The café where they knew my name and coffee order as soon as I walked in, and Halloween night watching Hocus Pocus on the giant screen beside the pool, headphones on, while champagne and popcorn were brought right to my seat.
It's those experiences, along with the places we visit, that make a longer journey so enjoyable. There's time to discover somewhere new, but also time to simply enjoy where you are.
